Constant demands

Just switched to DSL and got XP Pro. Must put in
unnecessary password to boot--unnecessary because this is
a one-user computer at home. Connected to internet
normally for a while, but now I have to go to
www.192.168.0.1, and THEN, put in my access code before I
can get to the internet.
Also, I must put in a password before I can read my email
AND before I can SEND an email. I check the "remember
password" boxes but with no effect.Hi Margaret,
I understand that Windows XP is not remembering the password.
Please find the solutions to resolve the issue.
Note: The following is a list of steps to take to troubleshoot this issue.
If one of these steps doesn't resolve the issue, continue on to the next
one. If the issue is resolved at any point, you do not need to continue
with the next steps.
Solution 1: Disable and enable the Remember Password option
a. Remove the check before the Remember Password option and delete the
password there.
b. Connect and put in the password but no check in Remember Password.
c. After connecting then disconnect, back to password screen, put check in
Remember Password, and then put in password.
d. Connect to the Internet, and then disconnect. Is the password remembered
when you try to dial-up again?
Solution 2: Create a new user account and create a new dial-up connection
a. Go to Control Panel and double click User Account.
b. Create a new user and set the user type to Administrator.
c. Log off and the logon on as the user account newly created.
d. Please refer to HOW TO: Configure and Use Dial-Up Connections in Windows
XP to create a new ISP connection.
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...b;EN-US;q310410
e. Can the password be remembered this time?
Solution 3: Modify the Registry
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that
may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot
guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor
can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and
Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete
Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in
Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the Registry before you edit it.
a. Click Start and Run, type regedit in the Open box and click OK.
b. Locate the following branch
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Pro
tected Storage System Provider
in the left panel.
c. Right click Protected Storage System Provider to choose Permissions, and
then add your user account in it with Full Control.
d. Click Advance and check Inherit from parent the permission entries that
apply to the child objects, and then click OK twice.
e. Right click Protected Storage System Provider to choose Export, and then
choose a location to back up this branch.
f. Delete the sub-branches under Protected Storage System Provider. They
look like S-1-5-21-124525095-708259637-1543119021-16701.
Note: For every identity that you have, there will be a sub-branch under
Protected Storage System Provider. To resolve this problem in all of your
identities, you must delete all of the user sub-branches.
g. Exit the Registry Editor and restart your System to take effect.
h. Perform the steps outlined in solution 2 to recreate the dial-up
connection.
i. Test to see the result.
One of the solutions will help you to resolve the issue.
Thank you,
Rashmi
