Conversion Tools

Are there any tools to convert Crystal Reports to SSRS out there besides KTL's Crystal Converter?

http://www.microsoft.com/sql/technologies/reporting/partners/crystal-migration.mspx|||

I went through that list and most of those are services. I am looking for tools like Crystal Converter.|||

To my understanding, Crystal (Business Objects) disapprove commercial converters. For this reason, most vendors offer this as a service.

Conversion of ASP reports into RDL files

Hi,
I need to know if we have any automated process of converting reports
generated in asp and dispalyed as html format can be converted to SQL
Reporting Service rdl files.
This will reduce my effort of re designing all the asp reports into the SQL
reports.
Please need an urgent help on this.
Thanks
Raghavunfortunately no. You will have to redesign except for MS access report where
you can convert. This is because you must have used your own logic inside
your ASP files, it will be difficult to convert automatically.

Conversion from Crystal Report

Hi all,
I am in the process of converting some reports from Crystal Reports to
Reporting Services.
I want to examine the value of a field in the next row. Crystal reports
provides the following functions for that purpose NextIsNull(), NextValue().
Is any equivalent method in Reporting Services?
Thanks
SamUnfortunately, no. We provide a Previous() function but not Next().

Controls on reports

Hi,
I have just created my first report using VS.NET 2005 and Reporting
Services. There is a small choice of controls to une on my reports.
The simplest control is Label, which I cannot find.
Please tell me how to place some text on a report.
regards
PrzemoThere is no difference between text and label. The reason is, this is a
report not a data entry form so it is not necessary to differentiate between
them. Put a text box on the form and then just type in whatever text you
want. Or, if you are going to be more complicated, set it to an expression
and use the expression builder to put in more complex text (for instance you
can refer to the parameters so you can show what parameters the user picked
when running the report).

Controlling Crystal Reports 9.0 Grids with VB

Hello,
I'm new to Crystal reports and am finishing up my first vb app. I need to be able to control the "Draw Custom Line" property of the Crystal Reports grid within VB 6.0. Does anyone know the Grid property I use in VB to control this?
Thanks so much!
Tricia =)aha! After a full day of searching for the answer, I think I found a comparable solution to this problem. =)

Solution: Split Dual Axis Grid
- Bottom axis range from x to alert level
- Upper axis range from alert level to x

Pros:
- The alert level line can be placed on the grid and it can be a variable amount calculated in VB so that we can normalize the data appropriately.

Cons:
- the grid must have 2 data points in order to have the split axis option available. The problem with this is that we need to show the marker for each point in the event of a first time sampling and only one level to show on the grid. I am using the alert level for the second data point and so the markers are showing only the alert level line, but it still looks a bit funky, but at least I have the line!!!

Control the size of a text box via a report parameter

We have some note fields that are very large so reports take up too many
pages.
However we would like to either limit the field to lets say 4 lines or all
lines via some parameter.
Is there any way to do this?Did you look into using the Left() function to limit the field content to a
certain length based on a report parameter? You could use an expression
similar to this for the textbox value property:
=iif(Parameters!RestrictLength.Value = True,
Left(Fields!LongDescription.Value, 200), Fields!LongDescription.Value)
MSDN documentation for Left():

Content Manager Security

I have a user I have given permission to folder and reports as a
Content Manager, but when the user clicks on the security tab for a
folder or report they get an error of:
The permissions granted to user 'DOMAIN\USER_ID' are insufficient for
performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)
I am an administrator on the machine and fall into the
BUILTIN\Administrators who are Content Managers, and have no problems
whatsoever in viewing and setting security.
What can I do to get this user permission short of making them an
administrator on the machine? Any help would be greatly appreciated.jdcamp,
Did you try wiggling the power cord on the server? Another one that
works for me is to open and close the CD-ROM drive 5 or 6 times then
restart the machine.
Hope I could help!

CONTAINS and Monetary values stored in text data type

I have data (pages of reports) stored in the text data type. The table w/
this data has a full text index on it, and I am trying to query for monetary
values such 123.45 using the CONTAINS predicate.
Ex.
select *
from tablename
where contains(document_text, '123.45')
The problem is that the query returns "too many" rows. In other words, the
query is finding the exact matches to 123.45 but also returns other records
that do not seem to match. I get the same results when I use a like search
on the text field as well (column like '%123.45%').
My goal is to return exact matches, only, to the monetary search value.
Thanks in advance.

Eric,
Could you post the full output of -- SELECT @.@.version -- as well as your
exact FTS query (contains or freetext) and an example of the actual content?
This information is good for troubleshooting SQL FTS issues such as this.
When you say that the FTS query returns other records that do not seem to
match, do the other rows have similar numeric values and if so, could you
provide an example of this content?
Thanks,
John

|||The problem is that 123.45 is indexed as 123 and 45 if 1,2,3,4, and 5 are
not in your noise word list.
When you query it would be searched on as 123 45 and would match with
123.45, 123 45, $123.45, 123!45, 123$45. etc.
This behavior is identical for the English and the neutral word breaker.

FTS query:
select *
from tablename
where contains(document_text, '1278.85')
I cannot post any portion of the data, it is confiential info. But I'll
give it a go at describing it. Essentially, each page has a report header
about 3 lines long that is text and date information. Then each page has
column headers, then the rest of the page has monetary values, a lot of ".00"
and occasionally an actual meaningful value such as 123.45.
The example query above finds 4 occurrences of 1278.85 and two other
records. The two other records have values of 1085.74 which is the closest I
can find to 1278.85.
Thanks for taking the time to look at this.

currently full text indexing.
Replace all occurences of . that occur and represent the decimal point with
a token you don't search on, ie XXX.
Then when FTI this new column. When you are searching replace all occurences
of . that occur and represent the decimal point with XXX, it a search on
123.45 will be changed into a search on 123XXX45.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to *configure* the wordbreaker and adding
any punctuation (other than $ that is already present) to the noise word
files will have no affect, regardless of the OS platform. :-(.

consumming reports in ASP.NET

Hi everybody,

I don't know if my request should be posted here, but any comment will be appreciated.

I have a lot of reports on a Report server. I also know that with the Web control (reportviewer) placed on a page, I'll be able to show the report in the browser. But what I'm looking for is a way to have something like a control that accepts some parameters (ServerUri, reportPath and so on), calls that control within a page to render the report instead of having to repeatedly placed the reportviewer whenever i need to view a report.

Can someone helps me to find an approach? Could Composite Asp.net server control be a solution?

Thanks in advance.

So, you can follow the Report Manager implementation. Subclass the ReportViewer control, put in on a page (e.g. ReportViewer.aspx) and make other pages redirect/trasfer to that page.

Constant table size?

Hi, thanks for taking a minute to help me out.

I've got a bunch of reports that have very specific formatting requirements (not mine, industry standards). Basically I need to have different headers and footers on each page, so I don't think I can use the report's headers and footers. Instead I'd like to use each table's (one for each page) set of headers and footers. This is fine for getting the data in there, but I'd like the table footer to be forced to be at the bottom of the page because having a footer halfway down just looks bad.

To summarize, is it possible to have a table footer be in the same place on a page (almost) regardless of how many rows there are returned.
pg1 pg2
header header
data data
data
footer footer

I'd prefer not to split each page into a different report and use those footers, so if there are any other hacks out there I'd really appreciate it

Thanks, JeffWell I do have an ugly way: add enough rows (of the data row's height) to the table footer to put the footer in the right position. Then add an expression to each one's visibility to toggle the first one off when 2 data rows are returned, and toggle the second when 3 data rows are returned, etc.

Any neater, less intensive ideas?
-Jeff

consolidating folders

I have 8 folders with reports in each folder. I want to move those 8 folders into a single folder. Is there a way to do this without having to create the folder hierarchy from scratch and then upload all the .RDL's again? Thanks for your help!

frank

You can do this through the Report Manager UI using the move button. You'll need to click the "show details" button on the right hand side of the toolbar. You can do this programmatically using the MoveItem SOAP API.

Hope that helps,

-Lukasz
